Tax question...

Reply Wed 19 Jan, 2005 08:28 am
This year is the first that Mr wolf is going to be able to claim pup on his income tax. He of course is going to file head of household..
My question, head of household allows him to claim ALL dependants..
Including myself correct?
I qualify as a dependant because :
I have not earned over 700.00 this year.
I have not worked ALL year as I have been at home with pup
I have no insurance
I have recieved no cash gifts
I cant be claimed as a dependant by anyone else..

Does this work? Does it not?

Sqwak! Sputter! Head of Household? On what basis. If he's married and living with you, you either both file separately as Married Filing Separately, or you file jointly.

shewolfnm - Then you should file a joint return, so your husband can take you as an exemption.

Why don't you get a tax preparation program like Turbo Tax or Tax Cut? They will walk you right through the process, and make sure that you file correctly.

TaxAct.com is free. But may be advisable to go with TurboTax as it is more ... shall we say ... "user friendly."

I assume they both do - I believe both use the "interview" method OR the straight form completion method ... your choice. TurboTax costs money, TaxAct is free (although you can pay for more "premium" services). You can either fill the form on-line, or download the program (recommended). I suggest you check it out for yourself to see which you might prefer.

Here are some reviews (note: these are reviews of the "online" versions):
