As an example: Shakespeare's Macbeth. Even Frank Herbert's Dune and the A Song of Ice and Fire series have prophecies that majorly influence some character's thoughts and actions.
Basically, I'm looking for (influential/important) english Literature from the 1600s onward with interesting prophecies that shape the story in order to analyze them for a paper.
@Saphyria89,
Don't know if it would be classed influential or important literature, but in Robert Graves'
I Claudius the Empress Livia, while married to Augustus, finds some writings that prophesise Claudius becoming emperor.
"Clichés in Fantasy Storytelling: Prophecies" contains some references:

But just type
stories involving prophecy into Google.
In J B Priestley's An Inspector Calls, Inspector Goole prophesises WW2.
And I tell you that the time will soon come when, if men will not learn that lesson, when they will be taught it in fire and blood and anguish.
