The Trump-Republican tax plan would drain the federal budget to pay for massive giveaways for the rich and wealthy corporations. When the deficit explodes, the only way out of a crisis will be something dramatic -- exactly the cuts in Medicare and Medicaid, and maybe even Social Security -- that Republicans have wanted for years. It's a ploy that dates back to Reagan's "starve the beast" approach to defunding government services. The goal is, and always had been, to pull off a giant redistribution of the nation's wealth from working families to the top 1 percent. We should be investing more in the middle-class, not less. And we certainly shouldn't raid the treasury to make the rich ever richer.

@edgarblythe,
Why are people so hell bent to screw themselves out of the social safety nets of social security and Medicare? Are they that stupid? Yes. Unfortunately, many are ignorant about their own political future.
