(CBS) — Music legend Fats Domino has died at the age of 89, the Jefferson Parish Coroner says.
The New Orleans musician’s daughter said he died peacefully while surrounded by family and friends, CBS affiliate WWL-TV reports.
He was best known for several hits including “Ain’t That a Shame,” “Blueberry Hill” and “Walkin’ to New Orleans.”
Rolling Stone magazine listed Domino at No. 25 in the list of “Greatest Recording Artists of All Time.”
The musician was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987.

I've posted about this a few times but ...

my very first musical memory is of Fats Domino and Blueberry Hill

I was about three years old. As was usual, my dad took me with him to work in the computer room on Saturday morning.

On our way home, we stopped at the university radio station, CFRC. A co-op student my dad knew was on for the afternoon. Dad asked him to play a song for his wife - in about 45 minutes. We walked the rest of the way home. Dad turned on the radio so we could listen during lunch.

Fats - Blueberry Hill.

Every time I hear it I have a really wonderful memory flash.

Thank you Fats. You make me and my dad happy.

When I was in the ninth grade, my brother came home from school one day and asked Mom if he could change the radio to Lucky Lager Dance time, away from the country station. I had only just heard of rock and roll, but was blown away. One of the current hits at that time was Fats' Blueberry Hill.

@edgarblythe,
Believe me. Time stops for moments, and this is one of those. Moments to remember years, and how, God only knows.

@edgarblythe,
Always love hearing him, his voice and style appeal to the senses and bring a smile every time.

His first offering, The Fat Man, recorded 1949.

Then a little later he gave us My Girl Josephine

Definitely will be missed.

I read a story that Fats hated My Blue Heaven. So, when they insisted he record it, he said, We are doing it in one take, because I will never sing it a second time.
