I use a printing site on the net to print cards. The way that the site is set, if you do not change your headers and footers, they appear on the printing. The site gave this advice:
Quote:From the very top left corner of your web browser, click on the
word File. This will open a box (pull down menu) with about a
dozen selections in it. Use your mouse pointer and click on
Page Setup with the left button. This will open a dialogue box
similar to the following:
In the 2 boxes under Header and
Footer you will find some strange
letters and symbols that are along
the lines of this:
Header:
&w&bPage &p of &P
Footer:
&u&b&d These letters are what tell your
printer to print those little letters
at the top of the page (header),
and at the bottom of the page
(footer).
You need to clear these by clicking
your mouse in the box at the end
of the text and using your
backspace key to delete them.
It would be a good idea to write down on a piece of paper
the symbols in the boxes on your computer, in case you ever
wish to turn the feature back on.
Well, I cleared my print setup, printed my stuff from that website, and then copied what the site had advised back to the "headers and footers", for my regular printing.
In the past, when I copied, say 8 pages, the pages would come out: page 1 of 8, page 2 of 8, page 3 0f 8, etc.
Now it comes out: Page 1 of 1, page 2 of 2, page 3 of 3, etc.
I checked my "page setup", and my headers and footers are printed as they advised on the printing site. Obviously, something is awry.
Could anyone tell me what they have on their "headers and footers"line?
Default is
Header: &w&bPage &p of &P
Footer: &u&b&d
Mind the spaces in "Header"; &w&bPage (space) &p (space) of (space) &P
"Footer" should be a continuous text string. Make sure too that the respective text strings start at the left margin of the dialog box; they won't work if preceded by a space or other character. Oh, and mind upper/lower case too - that's important as well.
Timber- I owe you. Seems that when I copied the header, I used a small "p", instead of a capital, at the end. I looked at it a dozen times, and yet I didn't see the mistake, until you spelled it out for me.
Thanks so much!
As an aside, it seems to me that Internet Explorer should have a choice...............header, footer, no header, footer. Then dolts like me wouldn't get into trouble!
Don't owe me nuttin', P - hell, ain't much about 'puter's I ain't managed to break myself; I have a buncha empathy with, and sympathy for, wholly innocent, less tech-savvy folks who find themselves outwitted by the damned things - I'm always tryin' to figure out "Now, just whuttinhell did I do to cause
THAT?!?!?"
