What an alien, yet intriguing concept: "finished" and "shopping" in the same sentence. ~~ do not grok ~~

I didn't buy anything for anybody this year.

My little form of protest.

I would like to say that I am finished, but with the tremendous salaries I make at my two jobs, I'm behind on birthday presents (still haven't bought my 20 y/o whose birthday is 26 Oct his present), although I am missing very little to make Christmas decent.

I shop throughout the year and the fact that one of my jobs is at Williams-Sonoma and I have two married kids, makes shopping a tad easier and less expensive for me.

I won a set of knives in a contest and that is my present to my son and daughter-in-law. The problem is that although I sent it last week, they haven't received it yet because they had to sign for the parcel. i am angry at them: they were informed of the gift's imminent arrival. I just hope that it doesn't come back to me.

Ha! The efficient German! Yes, I am finished shopping! And I even wrapped the presents half an hour ago.

(This is probably the first year that that ever happened... Could it be that something is wrong with me... Should I see a doctor?????)

Yeah, some of that, no doubt, but I also don't have any children (which certainly makes my commitment easier to keep than most), and I did give the three nephews checks.

But (and I hope no one takes this wrong) I am member of a very fortunate extended family, and we don't want for anything. And while some of my siblings continue to chase another yacht to water-ski behind, the unadulterated crassness of the holiday season has really come home to roost for me this year.

I posted a cartoon in another thread about it.

PDiddie -- Do you expect to receive anything?

BTW -- My former husband who doesn't speak to our older son because he doesn't like said son's wife; who speaks to our daughter only when she calls or emails him and who is now mad at our younger son always expects a present.

When he and I were on our honeymoon (a business trip), we bought what looked like a little framed print in either Berlin or Goteberg, Sweden. I said it looked like a post card. When we divorced, old cheapie said he wanted it. I ignored the request. Fast forward to last year, when I was looking for something to sell, I removed said print from frame. It is a post card! We're rapping it and sending it to him for Christmas.

No, and I probably will, despite warning them all that I was out this year.

I really like buying presents for my kids. Always have. Frankly, I wish I could have bought a house for each of them and a commonly held vacation home that we could all camp out at any time we wanted and share.

I shopped for most presents online and the gifts
were directly sent to the receipients - perfect set-up.

I do need to buy a few additional things though
for my Godchild and since he's a spoiled brat who
has practically everything, I'm at a loss here....

By the way redenvelope.com is a good website for
great presents, and wrapped so nicely in red boxes.

I hate online shopping.

A good deal of my shopping is done through (art) open studio events, etc.

Frankly, since the redenvelope has never had anything I wanted to buy for anyone . . . even if I could afford it . . . I don't bother to open the catalog when it comes.

Also, because I was always insulted by store wrapped presents, I prefer to wrap my own.

This year, funds inmy household have been tight.
But lucky me, all of my family love little bean.
I am doing for my mother, beans great gramma ( who is 84) and Ians mother is large photograph books.
They have pictures of bean in them of course, hehe. And i have alot of little trinkets of hers that she has outgrown, chewed up with her first teeth etc. I have made scrapbooks of her little life.
Her grandmother ( he-wolfs mom ) gets a scrapbook with her hospital bracelet in the first page. Gramma was there when bean was born. i snipped and kept her id bracelet from the hospital. I also have the first size diapers that didnt fall off her little body that will also go into the book.
Great gramma wolf gets a book with a silver spoon in it. Gr gramma LOVES silver and loves to watch bean eat. She just giggles and kisses bean everytime she takes a bite. She gets a real kick outta her.
My mom.. is 800 miles away...doesnt get to watch bean grow...
Gets the big book.
In her book she will get diapers of all sizes ( Laughing NOT USED.. ) so she can see how big she has gotten. She will get one of her first cups with little teeth marks on it from when she broke her first tooth. 2 diffrent sized onseies. one from when she was born and one from a few weeks ago. She will get a 8x10 of the first picture mr wolf and i took the day bean was born and a few other little treats. Basically... beans life in a scrapbook.
I hope they all love them. :-)
