WILL THE INTERNET HELP LIMIT AUTOCRATIC CONTROL OF INFORMATION?

In the Russian thread, nimh does an excellent job of describing the present state of control by the Putin Government. nimh's postings (and others)

The internet allows individuals to communicate with people, institutions and media all over the world. I know it can be controlled to some degree; nevertheless, as with radio and TV, life will never be the same.

What do you think? Please post any information re this notion.

The past Presidential campaign troubled me. But what really stuck in my mind was the fact that large numbers of individuals accepted whatever information the candidate or their designates offered. Repeatedly, speakers would pose as fact, details that had been proven false, sometimes by their own people. If we can do this in a Republic such as the USA, what can we expect of a Russia or China?
