Shower or bath, right? When I was in my twenties I hiked for sixteen days around Mt. Rainier. I had a very cold bath in a creek about halfway through -- one where I learned that my head could really be that cold and I would still survive.

Other than that... probably a little over a week. I was flat on my back after surgery to repair my Achilles tendon. Taking a shower was a huge effort and took most of an hour, once I could get up and hop, what with having to use a shower stool and wrapping my leg in a double plastic bag, but it was worth every wonderful, watery minute.

I think the longest has been for 48 hours, when I was on a train journey in India.

Else, I take two showers every day and would not even dream of stepping outside my front door without taking a shower !!

Super-G, you've gotta be the only european that does that. More power to you. Do you use deodorant?

Laughing I think I know what you mean !!!

After shower - apply olive oil to whole body (else I tend to get very dry skin) - body spalsh (I seem to have taken a huge liking for a Marks And Spencer Woodspice), deodorant (Currently using Desire from Dunhill)..

Four days was the longest I had to go. We were camping, canoeing, and fishing on the boundry waters of Canada. We were taken by boat about ten miles in and dropped off. four days later they come back to pick you up. I was able to wash up in the river but nothing like a real shower. When we got back to civilization I had one of the best showers of my life.

I think I went 3-4 days a couple different times. Once while I was on the dig in Utah and the other time when I was in this apartment and our plumbing-sewage got sort of backed up (eeesh!).

Back in the mid seventies I leased, with a pal, a 3500 square foot old Eagles' Lodge, with a Men's and Women's room, but no bathing facilities. My studio partner and I subleased to a theater group after a few months, to help foot the bills, for their use of the space a couple of evenings a week. I ended up marrying one of the guys from the theater group, and "so it goes".

However, for that year, I had no shower or bath tub. I showered at friends' apartments - luckily I had a friend not too far away in the marina with a cool apartment and an available spa besides - but I didn't go over there all that often, not wanting to be a pest. And I showered at work, downstairs in the physical rehab department facilities hours before the official start of work so I wouldn't get caught - but not every day. So I'm guessing that three days might have been the max, but that I would have had what they used to call a "sponge bath" at our studio kitchen sink, or one of the bathrooms between the times I was visiting friends or venturing to the facilities in our university building..

I have loved showers ever since. T'ain't nothin' like deprivation to make you appreciate something. Though in terms of what is usual for the world's population, a daily shower is one of mankind's great luxuries, undreamed of even in my childhood.

I think different areas of the US/world and within each place have different views on hygiene and cosmetic beauty. My own has been - after a spurt of magazine following beauty routines - rather spare on the cosmetic side. (as in what's that stuff, me?)

I remember when we had moved back to California when I was a teen and our neighbors from New York City came to LA for a week and stopped to see us, so I caught up in my friendship with my pal when I was eight, Carole. She wore a thick layer of makeup, at fourteen, which in California looked like a layer of concrete, and was generally all spiffily attired each time the families got together. Ah, we're generally more leisurely as a population.

Which is to say, it hasn't taken an hour for me to take a shower in decades, if ever, unless of course other festivities occurred.

Apologies if I told that story before on this very thread. I know I've told it on a2k somewhere, sometime.

Not sure exactly, although i'm almost certain i wouldn't want to admit to it. Embarrassed Also, when i was backpacking, if there was no showers or baths, i used to wash myself with the sink and a flannel. The kids i went to school with used to bathe/shower once a week, although that was before puberty struck, and we weren't allowed to be that grungy.

Odd socks, haven't you been missing at a2k for a bit, or am I hallucinating? Anyway, good to see you.
