If you see a faded sign by the side of the road that says
15 miles to the... Love Shack! Love Shack yeah
I'm headin' down the Atlanta highway,
lookin' for the love getaway
Heading for the love getaway, love getaway,
I got me a car, it's as big as a whale
and we're headin' on down
To the Love Shack
I got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20
So hurry up and bring your jukebox money

The Love Shack is a little old place
where we can get together
Love Shack baby, Love Shack bay-bee.
Love baby, that's where it's at,
Ooo love baby, that's where it's at

Sign says.. Woo... stay away fools,
'cause love rules at the Lo-o-ove Shack!
Well it's set way back in the middle of a field,
Just a funky old shack and I gotta get back

Glitter on the mattress
Glitter on the highway
Glitter on the front porch
Glitter on the hallway

The Love Shack is a little old place
where we can get together
Love Shack bay-bee! Love Shack baby!
Love Shack, that's where it's at!
Huggin' and a kissin', dancin' and a lovin',
wearin' next to nothing
Cause it's hot as an oven
The whole shack shimmies!
The whole shack shimmies when everybody's
Movin' around and around and around and around!
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby!
Folks linin' up outside just to get down
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby
Funky little shack! Funk-y little shack!

Hop in my Chrysler,
it's as big as a whale
and it's about to set sail!
I got me a car, it seats about twenty
So c'mon and bring your jukebox money.

The Love Shack is a little old place
where we can get together
Love Shack baby! Love Shack bay-bee!
(Love Shack...Love Shack...)
Love Shack, that's where it's at!

Bang bang bang on the door baby!
Knock a little louder baby!
Bang bang bang on the door baby!
I can't hear you
Bang bang on the door baby
Bang bang on the door
Bang bang on the door baby
Bang bang
You're what?... Tin roof, rusted!

Love Shack, baby Love Shack!
Love Shack, baby Love Shack!
Love baby, that's where it's at
Love Shack, baby Love Shack!
Love baby, that's where it's at
Huggin' and a kissin',
dancin' and a lovin' at the love shack

ATHENS, Georgia (AP) - Tin roof. Ruined. The little old place where members of the B-52s used to hang out in Athens, Georgia has been gutted by a fire. All that's left are the rusty tin roof mentioned in the song "Love Shack" and the frame of the cabin.

Well, thank God, another mystery is solved: tin roof rusted. Yes, I always wondered what the heck she said, what WAS she thinking?

Fun and noise and energy - that'd be the late 1970s and early 1980's all over!

Very Happy

"We just did our own thing, which was a combination of rock 'n 'roll, funk, and Fellini, and game show host, and corn, and mysticism," says Fred. It is indeed all these things (and much more). "Maybe people are at last beginning to pick up on what we're doing and what we've been doing all along," muses Keith. "The underlying message of the B-52's is, it's okay to be different."

the official statement on the b-52's website

The farm cabin where B-52's member Kate Pierson once lived in Athens, Georgia, was burned down this week by what fire officials of Athens-Clarke County suspect was arson.

Kate rented the house from Eloise Maxwell in 1973 for $15 per month and lived there until the band moved to New York in 1979. "Private Idaho", among other early tunes, was written in the house by the band. While the house was not the sole inspiration for the hit "Love Shack", the farm house with no running water was a special hang-out for the band in their earliest days.

"The song "Love Shack" by the B-52's is not based upon a specific place but rather a series of down-home, throw-down, disco juke joints that you would find in the rural South," said Kate Pierson. "It's any place where you can let your hair down - or throw a wig on - and just be yourself."

The song "Love Shack" was an international hit for The B-52's in 1990, helping drive the album "Cosmic Thing" to worldwide sales in excess of seven-million copies, and was recently voted one of Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

I'm kinda sorry to know that it was real. The one in my mind was down on the beach with a bunch of picnic tables spread out around a huge dance floor and the band stand had these giant throbbing speakers that made you feel the bass back beat on your chest with hundreds of little revolving pin spots that careened around the floor as the hunkies and honeys gyroed their funkymonkey souls into a frenzy of sweat, hot skin and wild eyes.

We'd dance until we could not stand,
then stagger out onto the sand
and stare skyward up unto the stars
the moon, sweet Venus, redman Mars.

Sweet sweet kisses way past dawn
we really had it going on
the music took us beyond all being
beyond all thinking beyond all seeing

Then start the drumbeat once once more
and meet us out there on the floor
spin and shimmer like the stars
the moon, sweet Venus, redman Mars.

i heard that last night on, As It Happens

love shack not my fave b52's song, that honour would go to either "dance this mess around" or "mesopotamia"

still sad news, the passing of any icon, be it person, place or thing is an unfortunate event

I'd be hard-pressed to i.d. my favourite B-52 song, djjd62 - but the Love Shack was just such a real place in my head - kinda like it was in Joe's - though I had more of a shacky dance joint in mind. The kind they used to have north of Kingston when I was young. A step up from a bush party.
