timberlandko -- Of course, there was a popular practice in the late 60s and early 70s known as "messing with their minds" that this sort of story neatly exemplifies. Besides, people in the entertainment industry are never models of veracity: just think of how many contradictory auto-biographes Suzanne Somers has penned.

Dunno whose she is, but who she is is she played a stereotypical blonde ditz

On a characteritiscally lightweight late '70s-early-'80s American sitcom

Last seen doin' excersize videos and infomercials.

Destined, no doubt, for well-earned obscurity.

@timberlandko,
The bottom of it comes from a relationship Jimmy Webb had with a girl in Los Angeles (MacArthur Park is not in San Francisco as someone claimed. It's on the red line from L.A. Union station). She worked in insurance and they used to meet for lunch in the park. The cake out in the rain was their love affair that she finished and Jimmy Webb wrote the song with a broken heart. The baking was the effort that Jimmy put into the affair which he knew he would never be able to do again. He eventually went back with her.

The song has a great deal of atmosphere and I can't see how the meaning overcomes logic and reason.

@don osborn,
I like the story of the bet with Richard Harris so much better and it works as a reflection of reality so much better.
