So what happened was, I was too engrossed in an intense phone chat and so focused that I stepped between two dogs apparently butt-to-butt !! Goodness Gracious but that squeaks !!

Good god but that grunts ! Good gracious, how audacious ! My word, how they were heard !

Moral of the story: Don't use a smart phone while walking in the dark.

You would use 'apparently' only if you did not see for yourself that they were 'head-to-butt', but were told (or heard) later.
