what does AA stand for?

In the US, in almost every circumstance, the man always pays. Women will sometimes do "the reach" where they made a move for their purse... it is a polite thing for to do, but men know the dance. It is still expected that the man will pay for the first couple of dates.

I have been told that for same sex dates, the person who asks is the person who pays.

Max is correct. Until you settle in as a couple the guy pays unless something is agreed upon beforehand. Even then, it is pretty common for the guy to absorb most of the cost of dating.

Interesting. That seems to be an almost exclusively American phenomenon.

Here (in Canada) , it is whoever asks for the first date and then usually dutch for the balance of the relationship. On special occasions later in the relationship the person asking will again pay - and will say so when requesting the date. It's been like that for at least the past 45 years.

I am curious about what percentage of time it is the man who asks for a first date in Canada.

Thanks for you guys. Because it is something about the courtesy, I wondered how the matter need to be done.

I just have read all the posts from other users. They told you a lot of thing which actually are not necessary. As you have said in the question,it s your first date with that person so you have to pay.
