I was really stupid, I have been depressed about weight gain and broke. I tried stealing a bottle of diet pills today (37.00). I am so ashamed of myself. the store would like to prosecute. the police are charging me with third degree theft. do I need a lawyer..what the heck is wrong with me. I am so scared.

Also, do not say anything to the store or the police until you get a lawyer. Do not apologize. Do not admit anything. Do not tell them how bad you feel. They are not on your side. If you feel guilty, talk to a friend, or a therapist, or a priest.

Do not say anything to the people who are now prosecuting you.
