I'll turn the tables a bit by offering a happy John Lennon memory - one of my favorite memories.

Growing up my brother and I were insperable. Even though he was six years older than me I was always welcome to tag along just as long as I didn't cry if I got hurt.

We grew up. He went of to college, a military college. I rolled into high school after he'd been gone a couple of years, it was the 70s and I was a bitty-hippie. We had grown in different directions.

One summer, on his last jump in Ranger school, he broke his leg. When he came home he was stuck in a cast, miserable, with only his little sister around for entertainment.

One day, bored, we decided to go test drive cars, just for kicks. We had a mix tape that included "The Ballad of John and Yoko" and it became our test drive tune. We spent the next month test driving and listening over and over, singing at the top of our lungs. We talked and talked and really rediscovered each other with John Lennon wailing in the background.

My brother is still a soldier and I'm still kind of a hippie holdover. We are still very close. But that month in the summer of 1974 was golden.

What makes me REALLY angry even after 24 years is that this piece of s*** could apply for parole after serving 20 years, he should die in jail.

How could anybody kill someone just so they can be famous and expect to return to society as if they are somebody?

Chapman should serve another 25 years at least.

Shhh... don't even speak his name. That's the kind of thing best forgotten to thwart his plan as much as possible. But, a cold-blooded, planned & carried-out murder? I don't think he will be paroled.

You may say I'm a dreamer... but I'm not the only one.

I found this little bit from Lennon's 1969 "Amsterdam" that Beth* might enjoy. He and Yoko are being interviewed:

Quote:
Questioner: why are you staying in bed for 7 days?

John: ah, because...

Questioner: well, first of all, let me say congratulations on your marriage and that in dutch is gefiliciteerd met je getrouw.

John: oh, dank u wel, oh, chocolat!

*And anyone else who likes chocolate. Very Happy Good enough for a reply to a congratulations of marriage!

This is one of my favs of his ...

If I Fell

If I fell in love with you,
Would you promise to be true
And help me understand?

'Cause I've been in love before
And I found that love was more
Than just holdin' hands.

If I give my heart
To you,
I must be sure
From the very start
That you
Would love me more than her.

If I trust in you
Oh, please,
Don't run and hide.
If I love you too
Oh, please,
Don't hurt my pride like her

'Cause I couldn't stand the pain
And I
Would be sad if our new love
Was in vain.

So I hope you see
That I
Would love to love you
And that she
Will cry
When she learns we are two

'Cause I couldn't stand the pain
And I
Would be sad if our new love
Was in vain.

So I hope you see
That I
Would love to love you
And that she
Will cry
When she learns we are two.
If I fell in love with you.
