Seeing Apparitions

I have just come from a quick search of the internet for sightings of apparitions. There are thousands of tales, putting it modestly, that ring true. I was moved to start this topic by what happens at my wife's job. She occasionally sees a girl dressed in white and blue, who will disappear, sometimes by walking into a wall, sometimes she goes through the door. She tried to follow her into the next room once, but she had disappeared already. She usually hears footsteps before she sees anything. The girl's shoes make a sound similar to tap shoes. My wife told the woman who sometimes fills in for her, "You may think I'm crazy, but sometimes I see -" The woman interrupted her at that point. "Wait. You see a girl, dressed in white and blue." The woman said she had seen the girl three times, but had not said anything, because she did not want to be thought crazy.

My wife says she does not believe in ghosts and I do not believe in ghosts. What makes me interested enough to open this thread is the fact I have known other people who also saw figures independently of each other, but they described the same apparition.

I read a book back in the 1950s about this stuff. I don't recall much about it now, but I recall there was speculation about electrons linger, once a person has passed. Wish I could remember it better.

@edgarblythe,
I feel there are a lot of things that happen that are unexplainable. Some are personal, some are shared. I don't know that I believe or don't believe in the paranormal, but if I ever have a personal experience it'll probably be life changing.

Seeing the apparition.

There can be lots of explanations long before invisible ghost girl.

Why is it ghosts can walk through walls and doors but never sink through the floor or ground?

They can produce sounds with nothing solid to actually cause the vibration.

She has tap shoes on, maybe the adults in heaven get sick of her constantly tap dancing they tell her to go but the mortals for a while.

I don't buy it. Lots of ways to explain it minus a little girl apparition.

@Krumple,
See right away you are mis-paraphrasing me. I did not say this is a ghost. But, different people see it identically without knowing anybody else has seen it. Other people, such as a woman I worked for have experienced the same thing, in a different setting with other people. There is a cause for this. I was hoping to attract people who want to explore the notion rather than throwing cold water on the topic. Thanks anyway.

@edgarblythe,
I honestly think that there are many things that are completely unexplainable. Not because they didn't happen, but because it's unmeasurable. Have you ever had a sense of dread or forboding right before you learn that a loved one has been seriously injured or worse, has died? Sometimes a nanosecond before the phone rings you think about someone, you answer the phone, and it's the person. I can't explain that but I know it happens. Energy has to go someplace, maybe when you die your energy bounces off 'something' and is detectable by a few people........maybe it doesn't happen all the time because the energy travels off in a straight line too far away to 'feel', 'detect' or

@glitterbag,
The connections between people and events is experienced too often for it to be imagination or superstition. Another example is the way my first wife could tap into some events regarding her mother, even though the mother was in Texas and she in Rhode Island. One day she quickly turned to me and said, "I just got a picture of my mother, stranded on the highway in the rain." Turned out, her mother was driving from Houston to Galveston, when her car quit running. She was on the freeway and it was raining. They didn't have anything more complex than these simple visions, but I was impressed.

Obviously, that she/it was seen by two people independently, if your account of the events is accurate, implies it cannot be an awake dream or an hallucination. There's no such thing as collective hallucination. I would try and corroborate the 'phenomenon' further by asking other colleagues if they saw her. One at a time, only with reliable friends who can keep a secret (assuming you don't want the story all over facebook in a split second).

@Olivier5,
Most of the staff has not been there long. The known sightings have taken place only in the kitchen and dining room. My old boss's story, she was in a mobile home, I think, about twenty or more years back. She "saw" a dead relative. Other people did too. They described him to her and it was the same figure. So, it happens for others than my wife.

@edgarblythe,
Of course, people see dead relatives every now and then. And we all ask ourselves if those are true perceptions or the figment of one's imagination or desire.

The question is complicated by the fact (?) that we all want the stories to be true, subconsciously, because they tell us that death is not death but only a new adventure. So in my experience, folks are often a bit quick to conclude that "other people saw it". These sorts of claims have to be checked carefuly.

E.g. interview your wife's colleague separately from her; ask how is the dress; what patterns are blue or white. And then ask your wife the same. Just to check that they indeed see the same "girl". I know this sounds distrustful and suspicious but the claim is tall.

@Olivier5,
The other person described the girl, including the clothes, with no prompting from my wife. These things don't last long and it's not like you can take a picture.
If somebody sees a relative this way and describes what they saw without being led, it's the same situation as above.

My wife has no knowledge of what went on in this church owned institution prior to her time there. She had no reason to wish a girl she had never known in life would appear and she does not typically see things that others can't see. In 40 years of marriage this is a one time incident.

I have to add that, this long after my wife and the woman she works with had their conversation and continued to work together, interviewing either one of them in private would solve nothing. As a police investigator would point out, the information pool is contaminated now.

Work place exposure to environmental contaminants.

Exposure to certain molds, either behind the walls or through heating/air vents where the mold gets blown into the room and inhaled through daily exposure leading all those repeatedly exposed to have similar side effects.

Yes exposure to certain molds can cause this type of "shared" hallucinations. Shared in the sense that these side effects are similar from person to person so they experience the same phenomena.

This is just one possible explanation there are a million others prior to concluding it's a ghost.

@Krumple,
That's all I asked. People to share what they feel could go toward explaining the phenomena.
