113 Famous sailors and their feats, real or fictional
1. Popeye the sailor man, famous for eating spinach, having bizarre forearms, and a terrible speech impediment.
2. Captain Bligh, Navigated a 23 ft boat for 48 days and 3600 miles in open sea with 19 men aboard.
3. Kay Cottee - first woman to circumnavigate the World solo (29'11'87 - 05'06'88)
4. Mariner from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Murdered an innocent ALBATROSS and condemned his entire crew
5. Vasco da Gama, first to round the Cape of Good Hope and find a route to India and the East.
6. British amateur sailor/yacht racer, Donald Crowhurst. Subject of the tragic 2006 documentary, Deep Water Attempted and fataly failed at single-handedly racing in a round-the-world yacht race held in 1968–69.
7. Thor Heyerdahl: notable for his Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947, in which he sailed 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean in a hand-built raft that they had constructed from balsa wood and other native materials, christened the Kon-Tiki. from South America to the Tuamotu Islands.
8. Laura Dekker, a Dutch sailor and youngest person to sail solo around the world.
9. Christopher Columbus: Because of an enormous miscalculation about the size of the Earth, he bumped into the Americas. But he gets credit for sailing those crummy little boats.
10. Quint from Jaws. Survived the sinking of the Indianapolis while ended up in the water as prey for the sharks as drifted alone at sea for seven days.
