Well, being Brit and all, it's difficult to tell with you people.

I just gave a straightforward dictionary definition of what the word 'ilk' means. I had no ironic intent. But I suspect that you did, when you asked that question. Kind of double-bluff. In fact I wonder if everyone knows exactly what 'ilk' means and are just horsing around having a laugh because it's a kind of funny sounding word, and if I am the dull guy in the office who doesn't get the joke?

Most don't know what it means, A misuse of it is a "thing" in American political discussions. Usually makes me laugh when I see people using it and totally misfiring.

@Linkat,
but in any case, we all know what he means by the use of "ilk" - so who really cares if it is a "real" word or not. This isn't like college English class or anything just some have some fun times.

@ehBeth,
I use it often, I'm mildly acronym phobic, as it means work for me while trying to read a post or even an article. Got a better source?

There was a misuse of the misuse in the coconut oil thread.

EdgarB is an author. He noted the error and is making fun of it.

@ossobucotemp,
Ilk is not an acronym. Centrox reviewed its meaning on the first page of this thread.

Is this, "and much like your ilk, you resort to insults when opposed," a misuse? Random House Kernerman Webster's College Dictionary gives the example, "he and all his ilk".

@ehBeth,
I know it's not an acronym, do you think I'm an idiot? I was talking about any of us using urban dictionary for any reason. I happen to find it useful.

@ossobucotemp,
Its useful so you know what your kids are talking about (and yes acronyms - I understood what you meant) - - the urban dictionary that is - not for the real meaning of a word.
