At the middle school award ceremony they had an award in regards to someone who is kind and helps others when no one else is looking.

Does anyone else strike this is as odd? How do you award this as by its very definition is no one sees it? I honestly would not care but the student that received it is actually what you define as a mean girl.

If you have experienced others please list them herr.

@Linkat,
Well, you could give that award if the recipients told them that she does nice things. Possibly, it's a BS award like most thing nowadays. Give the mean kid an award for being nice and maybe she will become nice?

Idk, but a relative's child in little league plays the least because he's the best kid on the team. The other kids need more playing time to catch up apparently. His drive and effort to practice on his own and improve are punished.

We are in a new world with a new "equality" where what effort you put into a thing doesn't count. Or even counts against you.

@D45ist ,
Well to me it sounds like she is nice around the teachers - aka Eddie Haskell - in my daughter's words she acts nice. But she is actually very mean to many of the other kids. So quite honestly I think the teachers see her being nice and thus choose her for this award.

I honestly don't care but find it ironic that you can actually give an award for something which in reality you cannot since by its own definition you are supposed to be doing this when no one is watching.

She did get three awards - two academic (which is good because they have to quantify it not a subjective) and another for outstanding effort - which is wishy washy (in it is difficult to quantify) but if true is also not bad. Not everyone did get an award but all get a "completion" award similar to a diploma.

In your same vain - when my daughter was in elementary school she got marked down in gym for "throwing to hard." She was throwing accurately just the other girls were afraid to catch from her because she threw hard (like you are supposed to if you are a ball player - which she was and still is). So you punish those that are stronger or better at something? I asked her what she to the gym teacher - she just said sorry that is the way I throw. I told her good - don't "dumb" down your ability because other kids are not as strong.

@D45ist ,
Another thing I see in athletics in high school is pretty much anyone will eventually make varsity if they stay with the team. I haven't really seen much in the way of cuts.

So in other words those that aren't as good will play on JV and because they cannot play JV in their senior year, they just move them on varsity whether they are better than others or not. Now they end up just sitting the bench or are put in when the game isn't on the line, but they "earn" their varsity letter.

It isn't that bad, except when the parents then start complaining because their child does not get playing time or much playing time. It makes it a wonder that these coaches still coach.
