@edgarblythe,
That's really sad, because London is one of the most diverse cities in the world which claims many different cultures, races and religions. London was one of my favorite foreign cities to visit when I served in the USAF in the late 1950s and was able to visit Paris, Madrid and London. London was one of the first cities to revisit as a civilian. The only criticism I had during those early years were the food, and I found the pubs were the best places to have a decent meal. I don't remember when it happened, but London became a great destination for its quality and diversity of food.
I've always felt safe in London, and didn't worry about my safety day or night.
On one visit, I remember a huge crowd in front of a theater. When I asked a guy why was there such a huge crowd, he said Princess Di was arriving.
I love London for its world famous museums and theater district. Their underground, bus and train system is easy to take. Even visited Greenwich several times. It makes it much easier to travel in England because of our language, although they have a funny accent.
