I'm thinking of droppingout of highschool. Here are the reasons.
1. I'm a 16 years old science student in Malaysia. However, my interest in singing, acting and modeling is beyond science. I'm tired of convincing myself that I love science more. I guess it's just the environment and teachers' and friends' influence that I told myself I am meant for science. But no.
2. I feel like school is getting boring for me. I just realized that it's such a waste of time, putting pressure on yourself doing something that doesn't have to do with your career. School nowadays shapes students to meet their expectations. School doesn't help students to achieve their life goals, rather, school shapes us what they want students to be.
3. I got A for biology. So it clearly shows that I'm no weak in these subjects but it takes a lot of hard work, time, depression, body health just to past that exam. In the end after you graduate, "now what" is the question. I know I won't be using that certificate to pursue my career in arts. I believe they seek for good skills and great attitude, hard work, passion and persistence.
4. If it is not my passion, then I won't succeed. I'm planning on to start small business or start working to save money. I also want to get myself prepare by losing some weight, learn real life skills, gain values and experince, improve social skills, get involved with many people and be discovered. I don't think i can find those in my school.
5. Since I'm living in a harsh family life, my parents are financially obligated, I guess i could lessen their burden from paying my school fees. Of I start getting monthly income, I can help my sister, who wants to achieve degree and diploma so bad, by paying her school fees. In fact, I was a waitress in 4 kinds of busy chinese restaurant during the school holiday.
So that's it. Feel free to voice out your opinion. I can take critics. Thanks!
@Pumnellmoo,
It's interesting how so little changes between generations. When I was in highschool, twenty years ago, I didn't think I'd use any of it either. I thought I knew what I wanted to do, my perfect career, I had it all figured out.
One thing I can assure you is that your ideas about life and what you want to do for a living will change as you age. I would encourage you to stay in school and even pursue college or a trade school (I don't know what your options are). If you have an interest in modeling and acting you can explore both of those WHILE continuing your education. It's wise to not "put all your eggs in one basket" when you talk about knowledge and skill sets. If modeling or acting doesn't work out, you'll need an education and job skills to fall back on and likely you will need an actual job while you explore either.
Most of us will ALWAYS have somebody telling us what to do. I am self employed and still have to meet the expectations of others. Accept that there will be times when you will be doing things you don't like. Look at those things as a means to an end. Do task "A" and do a good job so you can go do thing "B" that you like and enjoy.
Whether or not you succeed or accomplish something is mostly up to you and the amount of effort you put into it. If you CHOOSE to do well in school, you will, regardless of whether or not you like it.
Chase after your dreams, but don't forget reality while you do it.
Sorry for my late reply and thanks so much for replying to me.
I'm afraid I can't do both arts(singing, acting and modeling) and science at the same time, because science is no easy, and there is additional math, chemistry and physics and all... Head explodes...
My mom got mad at me because I seem like not interested in studying anymore, so she told me that she can consider about me droppingout of highschool but I must present her a solid, guarantee and convincing plans for my life after leaving highschool.
And i already made a plan A and plan B. If i failed plan A, then in plan B I will be applying for college that doesn't require highschool graduate certificate or stuff, it's a vocational college, which teaches a lot about skills like cooking, making mobile apps and so on. Also increases job opportunity, thus ill be joining the DOE (duke of edinburgh), you know the international award.
These DOE and vocational school are the things i like because i will be more into activities and action, i mean sitting for hours doing maths and science is not my thing. In other words, i love adventurous things.
So having the certificates of DOE and vocational school is much more meaningful than the important final exam called "SPM" that every students must go through. Because i think knowledge comes from experience, and when i say experience, it is an action. Thats just my opinion. Because i see school grades doesn't define your true potential.
Please feel free to share your opinion. I can take critics like a sponge :3
Please at least finish high school.
I strongly suggest that you finish high school. Finishing high school does not prevent you from pursuing your interest. You are young. You have your whole life ahead of you. Education gives you options in life if things don't work out the way you plan. College is not for everyone, but don't rule it out. The more education you have, often gives you more options in life.
@Pumnellmoo,
You can get a GED in the US (and I imagine there is something similar in the UK). Open up your options to more than cooking, even if that's what you really, really want.
Spoiler alert - you will always have to read up on stuff and you will always have to do things you don't love doing, whether it's changing diapers or weeding a garden or doing taxes. That's what grownups do. We suck it up and get that **** done.
