Why does the UK not play sport as the UK?.

I've always wondered why the UK is allowed split for sport.
Why are Scotland, Wales and Nth Ireland allowed to present their own teams?.
I don't buy the historical context, ''It's always been this way.''

If they're allowed do it, shouldn't the US and other nations be allowed do it.
Can you imagine the US sending 50 teams to the soccer world cup, although they'd still lose.
But that said, fair is fair, if the UK is allowed do it, so should everybody else.

I've always wanted the Americans to be able to play with double team members to make up the deficit.

@edgarblythe,
Well hello yourself, how are you keeping?.

To be fair, I think the American team have been pretty decent lately but they do need to pick up the pace if they're going to qualify for Russia.

Imagine a Scotland vs Texas final, why not I say.

@eurocelticyankee,
I been okay. You? I think Americans should be allowed to play American football in any out of country sport, while the other team plays football, baseball, cricket - whatever.

@edgarblythe,
Ah I've been up & down, in & out, you know yourself.

Now, I would like to see an American football side take on a rugby union side.
Surprised it hasn't already happened, but then I'm not sure can American footballers play without their girdles and padding. Razz

The American rugby team doesn't get the support and money they deserve to in my opinion. Were they a properly sponsored and paid professional team I am pretty sure we'd be top 5 every year.

So far as American Footballers playing rugby, they've not trained for it anymore than rugby players playing American Football. We get the occasional kicker, buts that's about it.

@eurocelticyankee,
We do compete as UK in the Olympics, but as far as football is concerned we're still very tribal. England v Scotland matches are very big for us even if nobody else care. Then there's the British and Irish Lions rugby squad which as the name suggests includes ROI members.

I think the answer is tradition, England, Scotland and Wales were separate countries for a very long time, American states, with the exception of Texas, never were.

@izzythepush,
I am sure that Walter will be here any minute now to point out how the US had a civil war once and that technically several American states were actually in separate countries.

Walter loves technicalities.

Your logic is broken in this case. Soccer ain't that popular in the states. Plus, we don't have that much talent in the arena of the Sport of Dullards (TM pending).

As for the United Kingdom? England, Wales, Scotland are separate countries that form the sovereign entity that is the United Kingdom.

Member of the EU.[a] The United Kingdom is a Commonwealth realm[Note 4] consisting of four constituent countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

@tsarstepan,
I disagree, they're more akin to states than independent countries.
(constituent countries) are not independent countries, much like the states.

But.. if Wiki says so, so be it.

Soccer ain't that popular in the states. Is that right?

Plus, we don't have that much talent in the arena of the Sport of Dullards?.
Well you obviously know your soccer.

Sport of Dullards. But don't like it?.

@McGentrix,
I must confess I know nothing about the American rugby team. I didn't even know they had a team.
I wish them well, it would be nice to see the US compete.

I better get on to wiki.

@eurocelticyankee,
Sorry. My disdain for soccer... futbol... is well known here. It's been physiologically proven that along with blood cells, my bone marrow generates dislike for everything soccer.

They compete better than some, not as well as others.

US American Eagles

I played rugby through college and had a lot of fun.
