I think he would have faded away like most 70's lite pop stars...but i could see him playing small venues and still sending out good vibes..

Seeing he was not just a singer, but a great song writer, he may have become even more legendary by writing soundtracks for movies and other musicians.

cereal killer, his family legacy in lyrics was enough to ensure him a place in music history. I feel that he would have adapted and continued to be a fantastic writer and singer. I still love his "I've Got a Name" and "I'll Have to Say I Love you in a Song."

I saw a documentary on Jim Croce recently. There was a real developmental leap in his music in the year immediately prior to his death. I think he was on the edge of a change that would have really amazed us.

Lite music? his lyrics are not 'lite'. Some of his music following his return from Vietnam was extraordinarily far from 'lite'.

Has anyone else hear ever seen his son, A.J.< perform live? Phenomenal stride pianist. Definitely worth getting out of the house for.

I thik he would have become a formula star in order to be rich.....he would have still written great songs but the ones he put out would be released two ballads...one Bad Bad Leroy Brown novelty record...in that order without deviating from the formula....he would be doing Vegas now.......

I don't think becoming rich was an interest of his. Writing good music was. He was learning more about music - moving toward jazz. His widow is a fairly influential figure in modern dance these days. Looking at her influence on him - and how her musical and artistic interests have developed - he was just getting started.

Interesting comments.

I don't know what direction his music would have taken but I had a feeling he was just getting started and would have been big.

Not Elvis or Micheal Jackson big -- but maybe Santana big.

Well I wouldn't know about that. You never invited me to one of your homoerotic sausage fests.
