Joe Nation has an AhHa moment. And You, how about you?

Every morning's about the same. The cat picks at my shoulder till I wake up, I get up, give the cat her morning crunchies for waking me correctly and start making breakfast. While the coffee brews, I read the Word of the Day from a subscription service before moving onto Today's Papers from Slate.
======
Today's word was pinto. Hmmm. Nothing new there.
But underneath was this:

piebald: spotted in black and white.
skewbald: marked with patches of white and another color, but not black.
========
The expresso machine was starting to hiss nicely so I turned away from the screen, stood up and took one step towards the kitchen.

Then I sang:

and away out yonder
ahead of them all
came a'dancing and a'prancing
my noble Stewball.

The cat looked at me curiously.
"Don't you see?" I said, "After all these years, I finally know what that horse looked like."

I bet on the gray mare,
I bet on the bay.
If I'd bet on ol'Stewball
I'd be a free man today.

Question: What was your most recent AhHa moment?

In the past year or so I have found chunks of what used to be a damn good vocabulary disappearing on me....I will be loking for a word while speaking that I know VERY well and I cannot bring it forward .....frustrating.....then later on it comes to me...many many AHA!!! moments just lately.......

Well, I have learned something new today.

Now, Joe. Was that Stewball you bet on an Overo or tobiano?

Joe, delightful. I had to tell the management of a local restaurant that the word was NOT expresso. Didn't help one bit.

A song I remember:

Piebald paint was the devil's saint,
His eyes were firey red.
Ten men have tried that horse to ride,
And all of them are dead.

Well, I won't brag but I rode that nag,
Til his blood begin to boil.
Then I hit the ground and I ate ten pounds
Of good old Western soil.

Aye, lads don't you make me mad,
I'm the devil's great grandson.
And I'm doing my best just to rule the West
With a great big 44 gun.

Joe, salute to you on Veteran's Day.

I know most of Younger Son's friends. But the name Alex had popped up a lot lately. Didn't recognize it from soccer, or school, or garage band, or religious ed or other contexts. Who is this guy?
Who's Alex? I asked the Lovely Bride.
Oh, she's the girl whose parents are throwing the party next week.
Girl? Ah HA!

I had an "AhHa" moment just yesterday regarding the phrase "dirt cheap".

I have been redoing my backyard relying mostly on found and donated items. I did, however, decide to splurge by ordering some good dirt. I had no idea how much to order so I settled on $100 of plant mix.

The dump truck filled up my driveway with good dirt yesterday!

Yipee!

Dirt is indeed dirt cheap.

Listening....

Years and years ago I took my son, then 18 months, to an Agricultural Show. We didn't get any further than the pig pen. The pigs had just been fed and were chowing down on traditional slops.

My son was hanging over the fence rapt with discovery: "Oh! Pigs, piggy! Pigs, piggy!

His table manners began to improve.

Stewball, and the many version thereof, has been recorded by Joan Baez, The Weavers and Peter, Paul and Mary --- not necessarily in that order.

Something that struck me on the way home tonight : I was whistling "Stewball" as I walked up the 181st platform (Great acoustics!!) and, guess what? Another AAAAAh Ha moment===== And so it is Christmas by John Lennon uses the same exact notation as Stewball.....

now for extra points "What other song did John copy with or without knowing;;;;;;;

The answer to our little quiz

---- sorry no more phone calls, please---

is the famous "My Sweet Lord."
Try singing it while someone else sings the Carol King tune "He's So Fine."
Um yeah just about note for note.

There was a lawsuit.............
