I'm a dutch student making a sport assignment in english. I have to explain what the word is for not having the ball but im not near a defender so im free to get the ball. In dutch there is a word for it called 'vrijlopen'. Is there a word in english for this?

@Rambodevil01,
If this is basketball, I bet you mean traveling (if I read your title correctly).

For the body of your post - you are talking about two different things - it might be that someone is open? Not sure.

@jespah,
Yes, it's basketball.
Sorry title is wrong, it's without the ball (sorry)
So, i can say: By traveling i can acquire the ball faster

@Rambodevil01,
No, traveling is a violation. Do you have a YouTube video you can find which would explain what you're talking about? That would help a lot. Smile

You see a 3v3 situation where you have to get loose of your defender by walking away from him without the ball to get the ball. What is this called?

@Rambodevil01,
You are completely free to move without the basketball. That is part of the game, and it is entirely legal.

Travelling is when you take more than a step without dribbling the ball. You can't hold onto the ball and run down the court, like in North American football.

When the other team makes a basket, and you suddenly start running toward the other team's basket leaving the other team way behind you, and your teammate throws a long inbounds pass to you which you make an easy basket with, it is called a Fast Break and coaches teach that play.
