The latest evidence for the catastrophic decline of American literature is the short story Jonathan Franzen published in THE NEW YORKER last week.
Absolutely dull, trivial, pointless...and this is the Great American Novelist
heralded by the critics for his mediocre novel THE CORRECTIONS. What has happened to American fiction? It hasn't been in such dire straits since 1920, before the emergence of Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Lewis, and Faulkner. If you want to see a group that is combating the decline, check out the Underground Literary Alliance at their website literaryrevolution.com.
Probably accounts for my reader's block, Larry.
Last week's NEW YORKER, Panzade. I am not so anal that I
memorized the date on the cover!
I bookmarked literaryrevolution.com
Will examine it tomorrow or perhaps over the weekend. Thanks for the tip, Larry.

As you know, New Yorkers are hard to keep up with;they tend to swamp our reading abilities.
