As a rule of plumb think of a number and double it.

Then add reality's edge as a safety margin.

My experience with plumbers suggests to use the same basic formula for choosing an engagement ring: one months salary x 3.

Expect the same general level of disappointment, expect it to fail again, and expect that failure to cost about as much as a divorce. 😃

If it were only three months salary then you could expect to be killed in a rush to the alter.
