we generally tease and insult a new person until they either:
1) get really angry and call us rude names
2) give it right back and we grudgingly accept them into the pack
3) go away forever

If they stay they'll fall into one of three broad categories:
A) political extremists
B) completely wacked out nutbags
C) sensible, reasonable regular folks
