Glad you seem to have figured it out, Jerry! Good luck to you and Elvis.
A poem for Elvis while he's getting better! I've taken a small liberty in changing the text....
Sound Advice
If you are feeling blue, old man,
And your spirit is getting down
My advice to you is this,
Get yourself a beagle hound.
Then when you come home at night
He will wag his tail in greeting
The things that he would like to say,
Are well worth while repeating.
And though he really cannot talk,
He knows when things are amiss,
If he could but speak the words,
They probably would sound like this.
"Please don't feel so blue, old man,
I know you are tired and weary,
Take me out to the woods tonight,
And I will try to make it cheery.
"Let's go down to the old brush lot,
Where the rabbits romp and play,
And there I will do my best,
To drive your blues away."
And so you take your little friend,
Off to the woods you go,
He trotted so merrily ahead,
You trudged behind so slow.
At last you reach the wooded spot,
And Elvis starts nosing around,
He soon will have a bunny up,
You can tell just by the sound.
At first it may only be a squeal,
But I'm sure it wont be long,
Before he opens loud and clear,
With that merry beagle song.
He'll drive that bunny far and wide,
At a fast and furious pace,
For he wants to cheer his master,
With this hard and thrilling chase.
If red blood courses through your veins,
You'll forget your world's cares,
For this is just the sort of chase,
That answers a beagle's prayers.
Your face will lose that constant frown,
You replace it with a smile,
And when this thrilling hunt is o'er,
Life again will seem worth while.
I see a new gleam in your eye,
As down to Elvis you bend,
And the merry little beagle
Has made another lifelong friend.
You ask me how I know all this?
And why I give this advice so free?
The same thing happened to someone else
And that someone else was ME.

Sug, that's awesome! Hugs to Jerry and the pooch!
Thanks everyone!!
Sug,..that's really great!!
vietnamnurse- WELCOME!! Thanks for sharing your experiences. It's nice to hear from someone who's been through a similar ordeal.
(damn. shouldn't have established the old dirty sock as a chew toy...)
One possibility is to give him a tasty bone to chew on.
Thanks New Haven!
I am trying to distract him with other chewy things!
The socks seem to working,..yippee!
(Still waiting on the biopsy results though)
Yeah for the socks!
Fingers crossed for the news.
<waiting along with the doggies and cats and people in the waiting room>
Waiting.....waiting.....waiting.....
(((((ELVIS)))))
Socks, hmmm? Does Elvis have a particular brand he prefers? I was trying to think of something to the tune of Blue Suede Shoes, but struck out.
I'm all for anything that works, sometime you have to be very creative.
Something we've found that works well is "VetWrap" under tube sox, saran wrap, all wrapped with duct-tape which is then liberally dosed with pepper spray ... the self-defense type (be careful to avoid eyes and nose ... yours and pets, with overspray). Its pretty water-proof, too, if the pup likes to play in ponds and puddles
Good luck

Elvis has been staying away from the dressing, but even better, so long as we can make through today, vet says it's OK to remove it,...YIPPEE

), most people think I'm nuttier than I am when I mention that cartoon, cause they don't remember it.
JerryR - some people think in song, some in verse, i think in cartoon references a lot of the time .
I passed YOUR tube sock advice on to a neighbour whose little adopted Chin had a wart removed from the bottom of his foot and was being walked with a big shopping bag taped around his foot. Next night, layered kiddies tube socks - and Chester was visibly happier.
