I started my pc this morning, and connected to the net through my dial up modem. My sygate (free) firewall told me that Microsoft Word was trying to connect to Verisign.com through http://64.94.110.11/ on port 80. This has never happened before, though I have only just installed Sygate to trial it due to issues with my purchased firewall. Can you tell me if this is a threat or is it something my old firewall hasn't picked up because it didn't view it as a threat? Ta in advance.

Verisign offers digital signature and certificates, Word was probably just checking to see if a certificate was valid or somesuch.

It could also be a third party plugin (e.g. Norton AV will do this) as well.

verisign and word
Thanks, Craven de Kere, but I still wonder why word has suddenly started to do this, particularly since I have never had any dealings (knowingly) with Verisign. It all seems very suspicious to me.
