Which is the correct sentence?

I favor the first, but believe both are correct.

For what it's worth, I write 5% with no space.

The first sentence is OK; the second could be correct if multiple percent signs are being used for some reason. As Roger notes, it is normal to leave no space between a number and a percent symbol.
