Best and Worst Patriotic Songs

My favorite, all-time, is God Bless America, as sung by Ronan Tynan. I am just blown away every time I hear him do it. The feeling in his voice is incredible. I can't tell you how much I love that.

Worst. I'd have to say that idiotic Lee Greenwood song "God Bless The USA". That just sounds like complete pablum to me. It's so annoying.

So...what are your picks?

Hi Kicky...Hi Edgar...

In the particular genre, I would say: "America The Beautiful" by Brother Ray Charles. Long may he wave~~~~~wherever he is.

NEVER the excruciating: "God Bless The U.S.A". Musically it's not that bad. With the lyric it is artistically grievous, but a real 'gusher' with the royalties.

I do love Ronan Tynan's voice on just about anything that isn't rap or hip-hop--but ya never know.

The Canadian anthem is one of the most beautiful melodies to me.

My favorite is This land is your land. I misread the poll -- I thought it said which song do you hate the most. Sorry kicky, but God Bless America will forever bring me images of fat white congressman singing on the steps of the capitol.

Actually, I love the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner, especially the fourth verse; it's the tune that is so difficult to sing. When we consider the situation in which Francis Scott Key found himself, we must appreciate the emotion.

But as for an alternate, Kathy Lee Bates', America the Beautiful, is my choice because it is both easy to sing and inspiring.

I like O Canada, also.

The tune to Britain's anthem and our My Country Tis of Thee are identical.

My favourite for America is 'Volunteers' by Jefferson Airplane. For Canada, it has to be 'The Good Ol' Hockey Game' by Stomping Tom Connors.

I don't know if this counts as patriotic or not, but one of my favorite songs about America is from West Side Story:

I like to be in America!
O.K. by me in America!
Ev'rything free in America
For a small fee in America!

Automobile in America,
Chromium steel in America,
Wire-spoke wheel in America,
Very big deal in America!

Immigrant goes to America,
Many hellos in America;
Nobody knows in America
Puerto Rico's in America!

I like the shores of America!
Comfort is yours in America!
Knobs on the doors in America,
Wall-to-wall floors in America!

Boomerang- It is certainly more inclusive than "God Bless America" which has no relevence for those of us who either:

Don't believe in God

Are believers, but can't understand why the US should have the inner track with God! Laughing

America the Beautiful by far...easier to sing than the National Anthem...
