We know about Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Country Joe, Joan Baez, etc. But who is taking up the cause today; specifically do you know of any protesting the situation with Iraq?

Alas, perhaps with the music industry becoming more and more conglomerated, there aren't many.

The best I can do is a joint venture with Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and the lead singer of System of A Down called Axis of Justice http://www.axisofjustice.org

China Davis - New Protest Music
I think that you'll find more "Protest Music" in the Indie scene because we have no one telling us what to do and not to do.

I think the 80's overdid it and there's a backlash now. Live Aid, "We Are the World" -- it became sort of cliched. Oh look at those multi-millionaires get all sentimental to boost their sales.

But I believe that there's a lot of indie music out there that's doing it.

Sozobe:

Perhaps also because of how conglomerated the music biz has become.

But there are a lot of "Indy/Punk" bands taking up opposition to empire.

I'm looking for as many songs about peace as possible. (But I just want songs from before 1973.) Could y'all help me out? I just need the titles, and then I'll google the lyrics. Thanx!

good list so far!
WAR was by edwin starr.
if you're going to google the words to the country joe and the fish song it's title is " (feel-like-i'm)fixin'-to-die rag" preceeded by what was called the "fish cheer".

you can also add these to any list of 60's war protest songs:
where have all the flowers gone...peter,paul and mary
i ain't a marchin' anymore....phil ochs
eve of destruction.... barry mc guire
give peace a chance..john lennon
draft dodger rag..phil ochs
fortunate son..creedance clearwater revival

more to come.

There's gazillions of anti-war-in-iraq songs, or just anti-Bush songs, floating around at the moment. Some of Green Day's recents songs are the most obvious ones I can mention, and then there's 'Hellicopter' by Bloc party, 'mosh' by Eminem, some of the beastie Boys' latest stuff, '2 + 2 = 5' by Radiohead.

Okay I can't think of any more, that's not gazillions. But still, protest songs are alive and well!
