@DudeSid,

I enjoy qualities in music which are independent of lyrics; I respond primarily to melody, harmony, and rhythm and really prefer instrumental music. Many times the lyrics in pop music aren't even comprehensible and we just hear sounds which we assume are syllables but can't really distinguish words. Other times I find the lyrics amateurish, ungrammatical, or otherwise objectionable. As Voltaire said, "Anything too stupid to be said is sung". So I tend to appreciate "songs" as
tunes. Many of my favorite tunes are from brief passages in longer symphonic or chamber works, like the counterpoint in the fourth movement of Mozart's Symphony #41. Another source of memorable tunes that I find running through my head are licks from soloists playing jazz or blues. It's hard to say which song or tune I like the most – it depends on how I'm feeling at the time.
