The natural expression is, 'I went to the party with a friend.'
Is the comma necessary?
Thanks.
In many British usage guides the introductory comma is advised if it follows a phrase of more than four words.
@contrex,
Thanks, contrex.
"I went to the party with a friend" is a sentence, so I presume a comma is not necessary. Am I right?
No comma is necessary unless it is desired to make a special point that you did not go to the party alone.
@tanguatlay,
However Tang, the comma is presently collo in that usage, even tho not contributing to meaning
Dunno why, just is
