Reasons people should not read novels

Alot of people I know are into reading novels. For my amusement, I've always wanted to start an argument with one of them to convince them that they shouldnt' read novels.

My problem is I can only come up with one reason: it's a waste of time. My argument would be that by reading a novel you are spending a lot of time (hours) on one story. That time could be used wisely by doing other things with that time.

Can you think of other reasons why people should not read novels?

I enjoy reading...I can't think of any reason for anyone not to read a book.

They could be on the computer playing video games, or on the internet looking at porn or on AK2.

Maybe if you made it clear what you would be doing with that extra time, your argument might be more clear. As it stands, I see no reason to not read novels, or read, period.

Reading stimulates your mind, expands vocabulary (even trashy romance novels at times) and broadens your horizons. Why wouldn't you read?

Children who read early do better in school later. Go figure.

"Alot of people I know are into reading novels."

"Alot" is not proper usage.

Now that's funny. Laughing

Grr...arrgh...I miss my English teachers, in all sincerity. Mrs. cav just 'represented' at the local drive for literacy. Kids should read, that's the bottom line for me. If it isn't a novel, try reading poetry or short stories. If that interests you more, then carpe diem, 'sieze the day'. Don't dismiss novels though. Mad skills be needed to write them properly.
