Salvation Army finds

Sometimes I like to go to local thrift stores and salvation armies to look for old hardcovers to read. I usually pick it up, read a page, and almost always buy the book for no more then 40 cents. Have anyone else ever done this? My first book aquired by this technique is Cross Creek by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Tell me anything you think about this post/topic or the book. Also, are there any great books you have found there that surprised you or just made you very happy to see?

I tend to do this, and think, well, if I don't like it, its really of no consequence. What often happens though is that I'll pick up a book that I wouldn't normally look at and it turns out to be one of the best books I've ever read.
