colon or full stop

I, accompanied by a friend, went to the party.

The above sentence is not natural. The natural expression is as follows:
I went to the party with a friend.

Would it be wrong if I replaced the highlighted colon with a full stop? If correct, which is the preferred way? Thanks.

It would be wrong to replace the colon after "as follows" with a period/full stop.
