Okay,
My band has a Halloween show on deck, and we want to sprinkle our set with a few rockin' Halloween covers, or just spooky songs.
So help us out with your suggestions!
Forget "Monster Mash."
I suppose we are an indy rock band (sigh), but with big 60s garage influence (The Who, The Kinks). Maybe like T-Rex but louder and faster and not as clean.
So like, suggestions along that line are great. You know, simple rock chords. But I can't be picky, I know, know.
So gimme some spooky creepy crawly (Boris the Spider) tunes!!!
This song has always creeped me out:
Possum Kingdom
Make up your mind
Decide to walk with me
Around the lake tonight
Around the lake tonight
By my side
By my side
I'm not gonna lie
I'll not be a gentleman
Behind the boathouse
I'll show you my dark secret
I'm not gonna lie
I want you for mine
My blushing bride
My lover, be my lover, yeah...
Don't be afraid
I didn't mean to scare you
So help me, Jesus
I can promise you
You'll stay as beautiful
With dark hair
And soft skin...forever
Forever
Make up your mind
Make up your mind
And I'll promise you
I will treat you well
My sweet angel
So help me, Jesus
(hey, hey, hey)
Give it up to me
Give it up to me
Do you wanna be
My angel?
So help me!
Be my angel
Be my angel
Do you wanna die?
I promise you
I will treat you well
My sweet angel
So help me, Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus...
We're doing a "Helloween" set that includes
Shout At The Devil
Running With The Devil
Number Of The Beast
Black Sabbath
NIB
Bark At The Moon
Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be
Highway To Hell
One Foot In Hell
Here's an oldie and not so goodie:
DOA (Bloodrock)
Laying here looking at the ceiling
Someone lays a sheet across my chest
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back
I try to move my arms and there's no feeling
And when I look I see there's nothing there
The face beside me stopped it totally bleeding
The girl I knew has such a distant stare
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
Then I looked straight at the attendant
His face is pale as it can be
He bends and whispers something softly
He says there's no chance for me
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying
God in Heaven, teach me how to die
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
Maybe....
Hungry Like The Wolf
Season of the Witch
Witchy Woman
I also vote for DOA. My older brother would play that song and it would give me nightmares - no song ever scared me so much.
On the lighter side how about "Werewolf in London".
Werewolves of London...especially the David Lindley version.
Also "Boris The Spider" by the Who. A creepy tune.
Cool. Some good suggestions.
Boomerang:
I love Season of the Witch. There's the Donovan version and the Bloomberg, Kooper and Stills Supersessions version. I love the SuperSessions version, but this band is probably more inclined toward a louder interpretation of the Donovan.
The 15 minute Supersession version is good for when somebody breaks a string.
I'd love to be able to suggest a Ted Nugent song, but most of his stuff isn't scary (at least in the Halloween sense). Plus you have to have a guitarist who can carry it off (no insult intended).
I suppose "Scream Dream" might qualify.
I heard Courtney Love do an acoustic version of "Season of the Witch" that was pretty cool too.
oingo boingo - dead man's party
I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin' with a dead man over my shoulder
Waiting for an invitation to arrive
Goin' to a party where no one's still alive
CHORUS
I was struck by lighting
Walkin' down the street
I was hit by something last night in my sleep
It's a dead man's party
Who could ask for more
Everybody's comin', leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door . . .
(Don't run away it's only me)
All dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin' with a dead man
Waitin' for an invitation to arrive
With a dead man . . . Dead Man . . .
Got my best suit and my tie
Shiny silver dollar on either eye
I hear the chauffeur comin' to my door
Says there's room for maybe just one more . . .
CHORUS
Don't run away it's only me
Don't be afraid of what you can't see
Don't run away it's only me . . .
