Hello I'm English Language learner in need of help from especially Native English Speakers. I'm stuck in a situation when I eat a good food and enjoy it, and I want to express my feeling or experience of the food in this format/ structure 'the food ..... me' (the dotted space to be filled with most appropriate or usual verb word). I feel like using the word 'pleases' or 'delights' in the dotted space i.e. the food pleases or delights me, but feel like it would sound funny or unusual to speakers of English. So please guide me what is the usual word used by the native speakers in the dotted space ?

@iandu76,
To say "the food at this restaurant delights me" would communicate quite properly. But more commonly, we'd speak it or write it as follows, "The food here is delightful".

@blatham,
Please I don't mean to bother you much, but apart from using the word 'delight' how does this expression using the word 'gladden' that is "the food gladdens me" sound to you in the same situation. Does it commucate well as well or it sounds funny?. Thank you in anticipation of your usual help.

@iandu76,
It's no bother.

"Gladden" is rarely used in modern English. Where you might find it used is in a sentence where the speaker/writer wishes to convey thankfulness, for example, at a funeral where many turn up to pay respect to the deceased, a family member might say, "I am gladdened by all the people who came". But even that usage would be very rare. Almost never in reference to food.

@blatham,
Thank you Sir. Thank you so much for saving me from embarrassment of mistakenly using the word in such sense. I will remove it from my vocabulary note and add it to the sense you just used it. Thank you once again for sparing me your precious time to explain it for me.

@blatham,
I'm really impressed and gladdened or pleased by your attitude. (I believe I am communicating my positive feelings to someone good to me).
