Oh my! I haven't heard anyone say "strewth" in decades!!!!
Lovely...
I'm a big Neighbours fan, Deb. I can't believe they've put Lou Carpenter in jail with Darcy! I'm also partial to Prisoner Cell Block H, and Heartbreak High.
Oh.
Are they all Australian?
I confess never to having seen any of them...
Welcome back, GD!
I loved Heartbreak High. Do you get Kath & Kim yet?
Now - Kath and Kim I DO watch!
Sometimes....
Duke's good people.
Duke, have your chair back. I was just warmin' it up for ya.
GD, welcome back. Now, did BBB say something about entertaining us? You've been scritched by a doe, fed chicken soup by a sweet little Jewish mother, sung to and courted by most everyone here. Get going--let's have some entertainment!
welcome back, GD.
Once also Wilso wanted to go, but he stayed here.
Staying together...
Good to see you back GD !! <wipes a tear of joy>
"He used to bring me roses,
I wish he would again,
But that was on the outside,
And things were different then..."
Kath and Kim I am unaware of, but no doubt it will appear on the satellite channels at some time. I'll keep an eye. I'm a great consumer of trashy "foreign" TV. If they've not got British accents, it is somehow less trashy, and more exotic..
Thank you MsOlga, Thok, Diane and Craven. Things must be different from how I thought if CdK has posted. Cheers for keeping the chair warm, mate!
Kath and Kim is satire - three of Oz's funniest women comedians.
Not sure if the satire will travel, though....
Perhaps, perhaps not. A few Aussies commedians have done well here, Barry Humphries (as Edna Everage) and more recently Roy & HG, who they get on TV for the Ashes.
Just curious, GD, did you ever watch a Brit. comedy show called Black Books? About a crazy, disorganized Irishmam who runs a bookshop very, very badly! I've borrowed it from my library. It's hilarious!
I do know Black Books. I'm a fan, although my memory often let me miss it. Both Dylan Moran (the Irishman) and Bill Bailey (Manny?) are/were stand-up comedians, and I've had the good fortune to see both of them live. Excellent. It received mixed reviews from the critics, but a strong cult following, which is always a better sign of quality IMO.
I end up resorting to videos like Black Books, because the offerings in TV are so abysmal these days. That was a really refreshing surprise.
I like the way that all Dylan wants to do is drink red wine, smoke cigarettes and write a novel. The customers are a nuisance to him!
Yes! In one episode he just got sick of the shop being full of people & proceeded to clang this really noisy bell, calling"Everyone out! Everyone out!" "But it's only 3 o'clock!" said one of the customers. "Too bad! I'm the owner & it's closing time!"
Then there was the episode where he'd do ANYTHING to avoid doing his (totally messy) accounts & responds with huge enthusiasm to the 2 god botherers who knock on his door: "Would you like to talk about god?" "YES! YES! I'd LOVE to!" Ah, the look on their faces as they try to decide whether to bolt or not!
Wonderful stuff!
I wish we got some of these shows over here, they sound interesting! The last recent Brit comedy I really liked was 'League of Gentlemen', but they don't carry it anymore. All we got was the first season.
