Divorce or no?

I am in need of help or an opinion rather.

My husband wants to get a divorce. We are currently living separately, but talk frequently. We decided that we would try to date again to see whether we can rekindle our marriage, but we cannot see eye to eye on the conditions of this.

He wants to go ahead and file for the divorce, then revisit dating. I, however, don't see the need to file for the divorce. I believe that we can try dating and working on rekindling our marriage without going to the extremes of actually filing. If we cannot re spark our marriage after this, then I would feel more comfortable discussing a divorce.

Am I in the wrong for feeling this way? What is the healthier way of handling this?

@Gishers,
His way is A LOT more expensive. It's also got the stamp of finality, or at least it's further along toward finality.

And it doesn't bode well if you can't come to an agreement on this without a mediator.

Sit down and have a talk. Not about dating. Not about divorce. Make it about whether you two are friends. See, friends don't have to be married to each other. You can be cordial and even enjoy each other's company.

If you're not friends, then definitely get a divorce and skip the dating. If you are, then you both need to get on the same page. And filing means the wheels are in motion. And those are expensive and it can be harder to take it all back. Filing before dating is putting the cart before the horse.

Recognize, also, that 'dating' might mean nonexclusivity. You might want to have a conversation about that as well.

He wants a divorce - and then start dating?!!

What a crock.

Let him know that Divorce means that you are OUT of his life - completely, emotinally and physically.

See how he feels about this.

PS. I think he wants the freedom to mess around with other women, yet keep the connection to you open AS HE SEES FIT.
