A House in Houston

From Traces of Texas

A house in Houston as taken by John Vachon in 1943. It was located at 1900 Franklin Street. An incredible photo in every way. So much exquisite detail. View it on a large computer monitor if you can.

@chai2,
I am thinking the fruit stand owner lives there.
Take away the porches and it does not seem very big.

@edgarblythe,
No, it's not that big.

I didn't mean it looks like a brothel in a criticizing way. I was thinking back 100 years ago.

Just looks like an ideal setup for the ladies to advertise their wares on the porch. Or a gentleman to enjoy a cigar.

One of the clinics of the company I worked for was directly across the street from a building that had been a brothel back in the day. I forget what it is now. This is in San Antonio.

They said whenever someone was having trouble finding them for the first time, they would just say "We're across from the whore house, and everyone knew exactly where that was.

I don't claim my assessment was best. I know the approximate location where the house stood, having driven that route countless times, and either could be correct.

Very interesting picture. I like the house with its large porch.
I thought the picture would have been much older than 1943 when I see the horsecarriage, in Houston.

This house was located where a parking garage now stands.
