In spite of the heavy rain, the children were still playing in the field.
Is "still" redundant? Can it be used with "In spite of"?
Thanks.
the question should not be whether 'still' is redundant, but whether it is necessary. It is necessary if we know that the children were playing in the field before the rain started, and had continued to play (i.e. were still playing) in spite of it. It is neither necessary nor correct if not, e.g. if it was already raining when they decided to play.

Thanks for the clear explanation.
