guys at Berkley made curium, during ww 2 and named it after Pierre and Marie (Sklodowska). Curie. Its one of the most easily isoluble rad elements . Bombard U238 with neutrons in a high energy environment (like a little cyclotron or one of the little trons (I forget which) We made it in a nuke mineral detection lab because it worked so well in an energy dispersive xray spec(EDAX). We get our particles through work whether we need them or not. It takes work to eat, drink, breathe... filter feeders don't work for their particles, at least not all of them... well not in the same way. I guess it takes work to digest.
Plants don't seem to work for their particles, they simply absorb what they can, light, water, nutrients.
Maybe someone else could give this another spin..

The problem is rather with increasing information complexity, in laymen's terms, chaos or the 2 law of thermodynamics. Contextually and in relative terms work fights decay...in absolute terms even working produces entropy...we just happen to output it from our system into somewhere else in the form of heat.
