The Queen means a very specific queen. If you were in England, the Queen means Queen Elizabeth II. If you were talking about a hive of bees, the queen means the queen of that hive. A queen means one of potentially many queens.

'The' is called the 'definite article'. 'An or 'a' are the 'indefinite articles'. These names should give you a clue about their uses.
