Does anyone know for absolutely sure what the lyrics to this song are, it was originally done by Tim Buckley, and has been covered quite a lot since then most notably by The Cocteau Twins and Robert Plant, both of who have different interpretations of the lyrics.
The one line which I am finding particularly indecipherable goes:-
' Where you here when I was (far ten)/(fox and hare)'
I suspect it may be 'far ten' as that sounds kinda nautical, which would fit, but I have no idea what it might mean.
As a matter of interest, 'futtock' is a nautical term for part of the rigging on an old sail ship, and also an excellent 'alternative' to swearing !
Artist: Robert Plant Lyrics
Song: Song to the Siren Lyrics
Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"
I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you"
robert plant did the absolute worst version of it ive ever heard..
this mortal coils is the best ive heard...
the paul oakenfold one is irritating..so very irritating..im going to get the buckly version now LOL
Were you here when I was full sail?
The lyrics are lovely, but I haven't ever heard the song. May have to dig it out.
