BRAINWASHING SIDE-EFFECTS.

By entering into a service one voluntarily allows their perception/s to be re-ordered/reset/reprogramed.
I'll use military service as an example of the extreme, but the processes apply (lesser so) To police, medics and firefighters too.

STAGE 1
Isolation: removal from ones' familiarities; neighborhood, friends, family, culture, beliefs, etc
This stage instills - What?

Please consider this as an oppurtunity to voice what qualities are gained or lost in this part of the process.

I'll walk us through the subsequent Stages - Should anyone care to endure.

cheers!

@mark noble,
When the mind is shocked into reassessment of its preperceptions it recognises the requirement to familiarise itself with its new 'seemingly consistant' surroundings as quickly as possible. That is why 1st impressions are the deepest, like the 'first cut''.
The mind now is as 'open' to input as is possible.

@TomTomBinks,
Thankyou, Tom.
A little feedback on the 'what is instilled?' at/by 'Stage 1' - would inspire my continuation.
But, clearly, my interests and research belong elsewhere.
I joined a philosophy-forum, full of like minds, and was abducted into this 'residential fb-chat site for the lonely and unattended'.

Jusk kill the thread - Nobody wants to journey into themselves here.

@mark noble,
Your first two posts were statements... interesting ones. I don't have a question yet, and since you didn't ask one, I don't have an answer.

@mark noble,
Yeah. What was it - philforums, or something like that. Except for the long missing Gosh is Dead, I also resent the inclusion into a2k.

@mark noble,
Dead thread or not:

I'd disagree about how 'lesser' it is, especially the example of police. That is at the root of the current 'policing problems'.

It is sometimes understandable why they feel this way but not justifiable. Police by and large see themselves as a separate society. They refer to others as 'civilians', and in a far less healthy way than military. They regard 'civilians' (black and white, btw) as a lesser class of people. Think of Joe Friday greeting the typical ditzy citizen at the door.

To a much lesser extent, this is also true of government workers in general. But there are so many more of them so it is an even bigger problem.

@Leadfoot,
Just out of interest.
Watch 'felix baumgartner' freefall from 130k ft.
Look at the earth's curviture from the exterior cam (It's more than the ISS-relay).
Then watch the horizon from the in-capsule (over left shoulder-cam).
Worst cgi ever...?

All the best.

@mark noble,
I think what you are seeing is an artifact of the very wide angle GoPro camera lens. I get 'earth curvature' in my GoPro videos (in airplane) at much lower altitudes. It's just an illusion.
