It appears that women are not saving enough for retirement,meaning they retire in more poverty than men.
Guardian;8 september 2004.
The Economist:
"Historically, women tend to have chosen jobs traditionally associated with lower rates of pay due to a higher volume of workers being available in those professions e.g. workers requiring part time employment commitments."
Maybe the above is the reason why.
Some women are executives earning millions... but on average perhaps women do not have sufficient income to support a pensions scheme or savings plan as they have the running of a household or a child to look after as sexist as that may sound (but is still often the case today).

Excellent, that must be the reason then!
