Pokemon Go? Most innovated game in history or the end of human civilization?

Pokémon Go and augmented reality is going uberviral on Facebook and all over the internet.

It's a game that definitely has revived the Nintendo platform and corporation.

Quote:
Travel between the real world and the virtual world of Pokémon with Pokémon GO for iPhone and Android devices. With Pokémon GO, you’ll discover Pokémon in a whole new world—your own! Pokémon GO is built on Niantic’s Real World Gaming Platform and will use real locations to encourage players to search far and wide in the real world to discover Pokémon. Pokémon GO allows you to find and catch more than a hundred species of Pokémon as you explore your surroundings.

The Pokémon video game series has used real-world locations such as the Hokkaido and Kanto regions of Japan, New York, and Paris as inspiration for the fantasy settings in which its games take place. In Pokémon GO, the real world will be the setting!

Get on your feet and step outside to find and catch wild Pokémon. Explore cities and towns around where you live and even around the globe to capture as many Pokémon as you can. As you move around, your smartphone will vibrate to let you know you're near a Pokémon. Once you've encountered a Pokémon, take aim on your smartphone's touch screen and throw a Poké Ball to catch it. Be careful when you try to catch it, or it might run away! Also look for PokéStops located at interesting places, such as public art installations, historical markers, and monuments, where you can collect more Poké Balls and other items.

A friend from Facebook wrote:
Dude was in a truck and honking at me as a I crossed the street. When I didn't acknowledge him, he waited for the light and pulled over and yelled at me. When I STILL didn't acknowledge him, he got out of his truck and started to follow me. I walked quickly into the train station, he jumped the turnstile. I seriously had to weave in and out of people and exit the station to lose him. I go back into the station and bump into some guy staring down at his phone who tells me...I HAVE A POKEMON ON ME. Are you f++king kidding me? I thought it was just my ass.

We don't have a large active video gaming population. Have you been a part or know anyone caught up in the 90s Pokémon boom? Considering diving into the Pokémon universe now ... since it's basically part of the augmented real world now?

@tsarstepan,
This game is pretty insane. All my children are riding around looking for pokemon, the park is full of people staring at their phones, a woman at work is gearing up for a 10km walk to hatch her pokemon eggs. Very innovative, but I don't plan to download it.

@tsarstepan,
I don't play it but it is quite the cultural phenomenon. It has overtaken Tinder in mobile use, and is poised to overtake twitter, the revenue from iOS alone is something like 1.4 million a day and it has added more than 7 billion in value to Nintendo.

And it hasn't even been released globally yet...

If you want to see people standing around in a circle looking at their phones, you have to go to a "gym". Apparently the app was based on another app that would lead you to interesting sites, so most gyms are at historic places, parks, museums, etc. That couple you thought were cluelessly texting people while ignoring each other was actually bonding while trying to catch a Charmander.

@tsarstepan,
My kids are playing it - that is about all I have seen. I've heard a lot about it though - the idiots getting robbed because they think it is a good idea to go to some secluded place at 2am by themselves to capture a pokemon thingy....accidents while driving, etc.

I mentioned these to my kids when they said they were playing this --- even they thought it was dumb. Saying I wouldn't be playing while driving and I only go around the neighborhood not places I don't know or in the middle of the night.

Also, heard two young teens were found in the middle of the night wandering to find a pokemon -- the police saw them, brought them home and their parents were none too happy.

My kids would then lose their phones.
