2. May I know what the time is now?

3. May I know what time is it now?

Which of the above sentences are correct? And why, please?

They are all correct because language is descriptive not prescriptive.

You forgot :

4. May I know what time it is now?

What's the time?

No-one says what's the time NOW , that's as unusual as what was the time 10 minutes ago.

If you could travel back to an age of polite inquiry:

May I know the time please?
